Maze Facts

How is the Maize Maze created?
The entire field is planted and the edges of the paths are marked using a GPS system. The crop is then pulled out leaving the pathways. The bridges are placed on the field when the crop is just a few inches high, with the maize crop then being left to grow around them.

How big is the Maize Maze?
The maze is built into an eight acre field and has just under 4 miles of pathway.

Is the crop used once the season has finished?
Yes. Neighbouring farmers harvest the crop and then use it for cattle feed.

Where did the idea of a Maize Maze come from?
The first Maize Maze was built in Pennsylvania, USA in 1993. It was in the shape of a dinosaur and at the time broke the world record for the largest maze. It was a result of the collaboration between the broadway producer Don Frantz and the Englishman Adrian Fisher, a world famous maze designer. The first maze at Tulleys was created in 1998 and this was the second maze to be built in the UK. Adrian Fisher has had an involvement in all the mazes built at Tulleys to date.
